The Split was created in 1961 when Hurricane Hattie blew a channel through the island of Caye Caulker with hurricane force winds. Located at the northern end of the lower portion of Caye Caulker, it is approximately a 1/2 mile walk down Front Street from the public water taxi pier. The split is a gathering place for snorkelers, swimmers, sunbathers and fishermen. The water is shallow, sandy bottom and beautiful turquoise.
